What are Laser Treatments?
Laser technologies are one of the most advanced ways to transform your skin and remove unwanted hair or tattoos. Using specific wavelengths of light, lasers can achieve a wide variety of goals in the hands of a dermatology-certified provider. At Biltmore Dermatology, we offer a variety of laser technologies and platforms so we can accommodate a wide range of dermatological and cosmetic needs.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal uses diode laser energy to target melanin in the shaft of each hair. The laser energy then travels to the hair follicle where it generates heat and damages the hair growth mechanisms. Over time and with subsequent treatments, this process can slow and prevent hair growth entirely.
IPL
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is the most effective technology available for pigmentation like brown spots, red spots, and sun damage. During treatment, it delivers gentle pulses of light to the melanin or hemoglobin in the skin and damages the cells. Over time, the pigmentation sloughs off or fades and leaves behind clear, healthy skin.
Tattoo Removal
Laser tattoo removal is the safest and most effective way to remove unwanted tattoos. Using very fast Q-switched dual wavelengths, laser tattoo removal shatters the individual pigments in the tattoo so that they can be absorbed by the body. With repeated treatments, they eventually fade from the surface of the skin.
Redness Reduction
Spider veins and redness are best treated with technologies like long-pulsed YAG lasers. They work by generating heat in the vascular tissue, causing it to collapse and be absorbed by the body. These types of lasers can treat spider veins, redness, rosacea, and vascular lesions like cherry angiomas.
Skin Resurfacing
Skin resurfacing works by boosting the production of collagen in the skin through gentle heat. It can be used to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, and texture with minimal downtime.
What to Expect During Laser Treatment
During a consultation with our Dermatology-Certified Nurse Practitioner, Ryan Patterson, you’ll discuss your options with laser treatments and learn more about which technology is best for your goals. You’ll develop a personalized treatment plan, including how many treatments will be needed to achieve your goals. Laser treatments can be performed right at our Terre Haute, IN office. Once your treatment is completed, you can return home.

Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions based on your specific laser treatment. After any laser treatment, it’s essential to keep your treated skin covered with sunscreen of at least SPF 30 and take steps to avoid sun exposure. You may have some minor redness and sensitivity at your treatment area. Our team will make sure you understand when to return for your next laser treatment to enhance and maintain your results.
